Here you will find answers to some questions that are commonly asked about Favorite Shortcuts and Windows Quick
Launch Bar.
Q: How can I add my own items to the Windows Quick Launch Bar?
If your Quick Launch Bar is visible, the simplest way of adding new items there is drag-and-drop action. Just
click a shortcut or a program you want to add to Quick Launch, drag it to the bar and drop there. Our
Favorite Shortcuts software can be used to add any file to Quick Launch Bar as well.
To add your own shortcut to the Quick Launch Bar using Favorite Shortcuts you need:
- download and install
Favorite Shortcuts on your computer
- right-click a file or a folder in Windows Explorer, and then select Add To Quick Launch in the
context menu.
The same way you can add your own items to the Favorite Shortcuts menu.
Q: How can I open the Quick Launch folder in Windows Explorer?
Quick Launch Bar is a two-faced entity. On the one hand it is a toolbar on your desktop where you place the
most used shortcuts. On the other hand it is a folder on your disk that contains shortcuts. As it is considered as
a system folder it is quite difficult to get to it using Windows Explorer. Usually the full path to Quick Launch
looks very similar to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
Of course if you need to open it once you can do it using Windows Explorer. But if you need to do it routinely, it
is better to use our
Favorite Shortcuts software.
To open the Quick Launch location folder in Windows Explorer using
Favorite Shortcuts you need:
- download and install
Favorite Shortcuts on your computer
- make sure that Favorite Shortcuts System Tray Utility is launched
- left-click the Favorite Shortcuts System Tray icon in the taskbar notification area, and then select
Organize Quick Launch in the popup menu.
Q: How do I organize items in the Quick Launch folder?
To organize items in the Quick Launch folder, you need to open it in Windows Explorer (see the previous tip),
and then rename, move or delete existing shortcuts or create new shortcuts or nested folders.
Q: How do I access Quick Launch or Favorite Shortcuts items using a hotkey?
To call the Quick Launch or Favorite Shortcuts menu you need:
- download and install
Favorite Shortcuts on your computer
- make sure that Favorite Shortcuts System Tray Utility is launched
- launch configuration manager and set hotkeys for Quick Launch and Favorite Shortcuts menu (CTRL+Q and CTRL+W
are the default values)
- press the correspondent hotkey when you need to call the Quick Launch or Favorite Shortcuts menu
- it will appear next to the mouse pointer.
Q: How to open a folder in an Explorer window with the folder tree?
To open a folder in an Explorer window with the folder tree, or better to say to explore a folder, you can choose
one of the following two ways. Both of them involves using the CTRL keyboard button.
- The first way creates a permanent shortcut that explores the folder every time you click it. To create such a
shortcut, just hold the CTRL key while clicking the Add To Favorite Shortcuts or
Add To Quick Launch items.
- The second way explores a folder only when you hold the CTRL key while clicking the usual folder shortcut in
the menu.
